LGBTQIA+ HEALTH
The lismore clinic
LGBTQIA+HEALTH
Lismore is known for its LGBTQIA+ community and welcomes people from all over Australia to the annual Tropical Fruits festival. The Lismore Clinic aims to be LGBTQIA+ accepting and affirming, and to support doctors that provide healthcare specific to the needs of LGBTQIA+ patients.
Sexual Health
Your GP can provide relevant advice about safe sex and screening for STIs based on your history.
Where appropriate, your GP can facilitate HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and offer advice about post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
Fertility and Family Planning
Your doctor can support you with starting a family and referrals to LGBTQIA+ friendly fertility services.
Screening for Cancer
Evidence shows LGBTQIA+ people have a higher
risk of cancer than the general population. Your doctor can discuss appropriate cancer screening based on your risk factors.
Cervical screening is recommended for any
individual with a cervix aged 25 years and over, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Everybody attending for a Cervical Screening Test can chose if they would like their clinician to collect their sample or if
they would like to collect their own sample.
Gender-Affirming Care
Book an appointment with your GP to discuss the risks and benefits of gender-affirming care. Some of the doctors practicing from Lismore Clinic can support adult trans patients in commencing and managing gender-affirming treatment. Your GP can organise referrals to specialist services if required.
People with Intersex Variations
Your GP can help you further understand physical implications of an intersex variation and/or childhood surgeries. Your GP can assist patients seeking fertility treatment.
